The Leigh Matthews Trust was set up by Rob and Sharon Matthews following the kidnap and murder of their daughter Leigh, in July 2004.. All the love and overwhelming support received throughout this difficult time gave the Matthews Fmily the strength and belief that they could make a change and help others who had helped them. As a result they founded the Trust in memory of Leigh and all other victims of crime.
The Leigh Matthews Trust was originally registered at the time of Rob and Sharon Matthews’ daughter, Leigh’s, murder when so many people wanted to contribute money towards fighting crime. The DNA Project approached the Matthews family at that time and its initiatives were taken on by the Trust, as its aim was to “..assist any organisation or community involved in combating …and generally any other community, organisation or institution that is involved in ridding South African society of the evils of crime.”
The Change a Life Mike Thomson Trust

The Mike Thomson Change a Life Trust’s was set up following the brutal murder of Mike Thomson in September 2007. Its main objective is to create a safe and peaceful future for all South African citizens. It supports effective, grassroots programmes that aim to address the causes and symptoms of crime. The Trust currently supports three projects, one of which is the DNA Project.
More specifically, the main objects of the trust are to provide for the care or
counseling of physically or mentally abused and traumatized persons, the promotion
of human rights, and the protection of the safety of the general public, the provision of
support to the victims of crime and to prevent crime in the Republic of South Africa.
